WINTER 2012 WORKSHOP SERIES
Basic Levels of Photography
4 Classes
Date: Tuesdays January 10, 17, 31, February 7

Photography is an art form that encompasses both technical and creative skills and presents unique challenges. This four night course will cover a range of topics designed for the beginning photographer. We will discuss the principles of photography and cover topics such as types of cameras, camera settings, lenses, ISO, determining exposures and apertures, using filters and accessories, working with composition and lighting, and more. Each week you will receive a practice assignment, which will be (gently) critiqued the following week. This course will help you solve the challenges of working with a technical medium, while stimulating your creative side. Bring your camera to each class. Instructor: Sylvia Galbraith.

Photographing Winter Landscapes-Don't Hide Inside!
Date: Friday January 20
Time: 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Join instructor Sylvia Galbraith for a discussion and visual presentation on the unique challenges of winter photography. Topics include determining exposures and lighting in bright snow, protecting your equipment form the cold, and more. You will explore choosing winter subjects and study creative compositions. Designed for basic to intermediate skill levels, film or digital. Highly recommended for those who love the outdoors and artists who take reference photos.

From Camera to Computers
Date: Tuesday February 21
Time: 7:00-9:00 p.m.

You've filled your memory card with great photos...now what? Do you load everything onto your computer without knowing what to do next? Instructor Sylvia Galbraith will help you learn different ways to upload your photos to your computer, organize files, create back-up copies and more. You will learn some basic photo editing skills and how to resize your images for email or print. This course is valuable for artists who create digital files for gallery submissions. Does not require a computer in class. Step-by-step notes are included in the course fee.

Intermediate Levels of Photography

Date: Wednesdays February 29, March 7, 21, & 28 (no class on March 14)
Time: 7:00-9:00 p.m.

This is a continuation of the Basic Level course and incorporates a variety of topics. It's where we begin to challenge your imagination and help you develop your individual style. We will work with advanced camera settings including shooting in RAW, fine-tuning exposures, working in black and white, photographing moving subjects and more. You will receive practice assignments to critique each week. Instructor: Sylvia Galbraith.
Pre-requisite: Basic Levels of Photography course or equivalent skills.

Digital Downloading 101

Afraid of your computer? Worried that you might accidentally loose your pictures?
Come to this one night class and we will show you how safe and easy it is to download your pictures to your computer. Through a PowerPoint and "hands-on" presentation, you will master the ability to create and rename files and folders, organize them, e-mail them with control over resolution and burn your images to CD's for safe, long lasting storage. (we also cover the importance of using the right type of CD to store your photos on!)
Digital Cameras 101

This is designed as a beginner to intermediate level course. Through a PowerPoint and interactive "hands-on" presentation, we will show you how to get the most out of your camera. We will cover the menus and operation of shooting and playback modes, composition and other techniques to enhance your photo opportunities. Bring your Camera! Bring a friend!

DSLR Camera - Digital Single Lens Reflex- Interchangeable Lens Camera

Fee: $50 1 session or purchase 3 sessions for only $125.50 (3-1 hours or 1-2 hour with 1-1 hour)
These classes are held with up to three people to ensure maximum detail with your specific model.
Are you getting the full potential from your DSLR camera? Through a "hands-on" approach, you will be taught how to get the most out of your Digital SLR camera. You will learn how to be more creative using Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority, Manual Functions, the importance of light metering, as well as Fill Flash photography.
